Chemical Exfoliants

Chemical Exfoliants:

  • Glycolic Acid: This alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) helps to exfoliate the top layer of skin, promoting smoother and softer skin. Look for lotions or creams containing glycolic acid in low to moderate concentrations.
  • Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs): OTC products with AHAs, such as glycolic acid, can help improve the appearance of AK by promoting gentle exfoliation and skin cell turnover.
  • Lactic Acid: Another AHA, lactic acid helps to moisturize and exfoliate simultaneously, making it a good choice for sensitive skin. Products with lactic acid can help improve the texture of KP-prone areas.
  • Salicylic Acid: A beta hydroxy acid (BHA), salicylic acid helps to exfoliate within the pores, making it particularly useful for treating the buildup of keratin in hair follicles. It’s available in lotions, creams, and body washes.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide Creams: Some OTC creams contain hydrogen peroxide, which has mild antiseptic and exfoliating properties that could potentially help with actinic keratosis.
